Docs, usually how long is one kept in hospital after a suicide attempt?

Depends: It depends on the severity of the attempt, the response to medication, the number of previous attempts. Generally speaking a person should stay in the hospital after a suicide attempt until they are not a danger to themselves, and have an appropriate outpatient clinic and follow up to help them with their recovery.

Agree with Dr. Tripp: This can be quite variable depending on the underlying condition, severity & responsiveness to treatment.
