Dependent edema: Some of the nose stuffing up at night may be due to blood backing up when you lay down. This can be exacerbated by allergies (especially to dust mites in the bed or other allergens in the bedroom) or your anatomy (deviated septum, enlarged turbinates). The phlegm in the throat may also be related to post nasal drip from allergies or from reflux of acid into the throat.
