Mucous: Drugs that thin mucous are called mucolytics, and the best one is guiafeinsin, sold as liquid or tablets generically or by brand name (Mucinex). Also drink plenty of water, and ask your doc if you have allergies or sinusitis/bronchitis which could be aggravating mucous production. Some use steam as a ‘non medical’ way to losses phlegm. This works but will wear off quickly, be careful of heat burns
