A member asked:

Should a person on tecta for gerd (4 week rx) resume eating what they like, now that the pain is gone? or should they take it easy throughout the rx?

PPIs: Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor designed to reduce stomach acidity, so that the acid washed back up into the esophagus will not damage tissue as much and reduce symptoms. If the cause of the gerd remains uncorrected this may have to be taken for much longer. You should, however, to be able to return to your normal diet, but if you find foods that are bothersome, delete them.

This drug: Is one of the proton inhibitors that prevents stomach acid being produced. Have you had an endoscopy to diagnose the mechanism in you? Some gerd sufferers actually have a low acid paradoxically. It must be distinguished from eosinophilic esophagitis, an inflammaatory condition.
