A member asked:

Doctor stopped victoza (liraglutide) and now started januvia, is there any site effects i should worry about, also is victoza (liraglutide) and januvia kinda the same.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not the same: Victoza (liraglutide) is a glp-1 analog, januvia is a dpp-iv inhibitor. Both cause a rise in a hormone called glp-1 that improves diabetes control, but they do it by two different mechanisms. Both have few side effects, though there is concern that they may increase the risk of having pancreatitis. Victoza (liraglutide) causes weight loss, januvia does not.
