YES!!: Appendicitis is a local inflammation (not necessarily infection) of the appendix, a small tube-like projection at the beginning of our colon (large intestine), located near the right hip bone. Since it causes local irritation, many people will have fairly normal bowel function, until the inflammation sends a "danger signal" to the rest of the intestines, telling them to shut down = bloating.
