How depressed should one be to see a doctor?

Not a requirement: Depression is not a requirement to see a psychiatrist or other mental health professional. Also even a little bit of depression can be significant. There are also many other symptoms which may indicate a problem that should be treated.

Quality of Life.: Agree w dr. Blumenfield. What is important is that something is negatively impacting your quality of life. If your well-being could be improved - that is significant. You may wish to see a counselor or a psychologist. If you find that sleep, appetite, energy level, drive or memory are effected - an evaluation by your physician or a psychiatrist may also be beneficial. Take care.
