Get help right away: See a psychologist or psychiatrist if you are uncomfortable with your primary care physician. However, all doctors visits should be confidential and the best solution is to get help quickly. The sooner you start the sooner you can begin to heal. Psychotherapy (cognitive behavioral and interpersonal) are very effective in treatment, when moderate or severe medications may further help.

GO!!: Get help nothing to fear or be ashamed of. Who will know other than you and the doctor. In depression you really ought to have support so get help and talk to a friend or family member. Letting it go is not safe and just prolongs the agony. Lots of great and effective treatments from talk therapy to medications to both (which is the best!).

Seek help: Admitting you need help is the first step to recovery. Many many people experience depression and get effective help. Being depressed is, in some sense, no different than getting the flu, and there is no shame in getting the flu or treatment for the flu. Ask your primary care doc for a referral. Research shows that the sooner you get help the less severe the depression will be. Good luck!

Conflict: You're expressing 2 things that are in conflict with each other: not wanting anyone to know about your depression, but also not wanting to "be alone in this again." i agree with my colleagues that there are many treatment options. If you don't want to be alone in getting this though, you'll need to trust someone in your life. People who don't know what you need, can't help or support you.

Psychologist: Find a good psychologist. They will see you in strict confidence and without need for record in medical reports. There may be a need for psychiatric consult which would remain strictly confidential.
