Kidney tumor in kids: Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, wilms' tumor is the most common kidney cancer in children. The outlook for most children with wilms' tumor is good. Treatment for wilms' tumor is surgery and chemotherapy. Wilms tumor: Also known as nephroblastoma, is a malignant tumor of the kidney, but the tumor does not function like normal renal tissue. Luckily we have lots of functional reserve, so we can lose an entire kidney (often required to treat wt) and still have adequate renal function for a lifetime. It is, however, important for kidney function to be monitored regularly during and after treatment.
