Not always: If you have hip pain and an x-ray diagnosis of osteoarthritis and see an orthopedic surgeon skilled at diagnosing and performing total hip replacement, you will most likely get adequate and appropriate information regarding the procedure. If you are not comfortable with the surgeon, feel free to get a second opinion first, or talk to your primary care md about the physicians reputation.
