The most important -: Thing is to ensure you are not having a blood clot, which if it travels to the lungs, can be fatal. So get to your er dept asap and they should be able to do a venous doppler to confirm it and start you on medication (clot busters). Other causes are due to bleeding into the calf muscles, which can be painful. Get yourself into an er asap.
