Gauze: Pain is often due to bruxing. Try a piece ofngauzenfolded over 2 or 3 times a place one piece between your teeth to keep them apart. If this helps after 2 or 3 days, get a soft mandibular orthotic fabricated by you dentist to prevent injury to teeth, jaws, muscles and tmj.

TMD: It sounds like you may have a disorder related to your jaw that sometimes occurs after wisdom tooth removal. You might try some moist heat and gentle stretching otherwise you should call the dentist and be evaluated. Or see a tmd specialist that can diagnose the problem.

No quick fix: Clenching occurs during the day, grinding of the teeth at night. There are many variables involved with clenching and by becoming aware of it often causes one to clench more. A daytime splint (mouthpiece) can help, but i would recommend a custom one, not an otc mouthpiece. You really should be evaluated to determine the best options, with a thorough history and an exam.

See oral surgeon: To sort out what parts of your symptoms are due to expected recovery from surgery, possibility of jaw joint injury during surgery, or exacerbation of previous TMJ problem, see a board certified oral surgeon. Even if initial surgery was not done by oral surgeon.
