Ca and parathyroid: Yes, serum calcium (c) is elevated in patients with hyperparathyroidism (hp). This is due to c being liberated from the bone due to the effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH) on it and more c being absorbed by the kidney, raising the c of the blood. Hp is normally treated by removing the parathyroid gland that has an adenoma secreting the excess pth. If no gland is found, Cinacalcet is an option.
