Yes: Geographic tongue is an inflammatory condition where maps or patches on the tongue appear at different places. Sometimes zinc supplements are helpful. Avoiding spicy food and artificial substitutes in mouthwahses and toothpastes is also helpful.

Not usually but...: The extent, duration, and location of areas that appear on the tongue vary over time. It is a benign condition that usually requires no treatment. There is believed to be a genetic component in many cases. It has been known to go away if related to various medical contributing factors but as a general rule lasts for years or the rest of your life.
