Geographic tongue: Lesions of geographic tongue fluctuate, getting better or worse, disappearing, moving locations. It is considered essentially to be psoriasis of the tongue. There are topical treatments that help improve the condition. However the condition is unpredictable so it's hard to say whether it will eventually disappear completely.

Yes: Geographic tongue usually persists for life. It is continually changing in the way it looks.

Comes and goes: Geographic tongue is a totally benign condition that will change its appearance and can come and go. No cause is known and no treatment is needed. Don't worry about it.
