Depends: The effect on the babies condition at birth is dependent on the type and duration of anesthesia before they are delivered. If the surgeon has quick technique and delivers the babies in 15-20 minutes or less, they tent to have no problems. The longer the procedure takes, the more the babies are sedated at birth and may need assistance breathing.

Safer OB anesthesia: Regional anesthesia, spinal or epidural, is the preferred anesthesia for labor and delivery. The baby(ies) are born less depressed and the mother's full stomach is not as big a problem. And an epidural can provide excellent pain relief for labor before delivery. Spend some time talking with your friendly anesthesiologist before going into labor!

Possibly: The risks to the mother are increased (doubled) with a general anesthetic. Most anesthesiologists will strongly suggest that you have a regional anesthetic for your operation. The risk to your children is that they will be exposed to more chemicals, as well as the increased risk to yourself will affect them. Good luck.
