Diet changes: Ideally, diet and exercise. However, if you are unable to exercise, i would recommend a caloric restrictive diet. Just cutting 250 cal/day will equal 1/2 lb loss per week. It takes longer w/o exercise and without starving yourself. But this is reasonable approach.

Diet only: Really difficult to lose weight without exercise, but still possible. Try to eat smaller portions through the day (3 meals and 2 snacks) that would keep your metabolism high and it would burn more calories. Also increase intake of vegetables and proteins and decrease starches and fat. Meal replacements, like high protein shakes can help too.
