Could be...: Esophageal reflux, mild ulcer, gastritis are all possibilities based on your symptoms ("gnawing pain"). Mild antacids may not be enough . Consider an otc ppi (speak to your pharmacist) to decrease any excess of acid production. Even if you get relief, it's best to check in with your pcp. You may need antibiotics to heal an ulcer, if present.

Maybe: Without a complete history and physical examination it is hard to tell. Many things cause discomfort: gastritis, stomach ulcer, heartburn or reflux, constipation, gallbladder, pancreas, etc. Need to see a doctor for an evaluation for more accurate information.
