PCOS: The mos common cause of irregular periods that are more than 35 days apart is pcos. Many people with pcos do not have the other classic symptoms: excess weight, excess hair growth, acne. Please see your gyn or a reproductive endocrinologist for further evaluation. The irregular periods increase your risk for developing cancer of the lining of the uterus (endometrium).

Many things: Pcos is a common reason for irregular periods, but stress, chronic disease, sudden weight changes, thyroid or other hormone problems, etc. Are also up on the list of possibilities. Sometimes a reason can't be found and a gynecologist may decide to give birth control pills a try for awhile.
