Not main reason.: Palatal expansion surgery in adults is done to harmonize upper/lower jaw widths. As upper jaw widens, arch length (room for teeth) increases slightly. But expansion is not done just to increase arch length, as it would cause a side-to-side imbalance if upper and lower jaws match each other. Please consult with a qualified orthodontic specialist.

May be! : Sarpe surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (developed originally by harry aronowitz) has been well developed, and in the right circumstances has been shown to be an effective treatment modality. It is not for every case of crowding, and you should allow your orthodontist and prosthodontist to go over the treatment plan with you and explain the costs and the pros and cons. Good luck!
