Still too early: Your surgeon should really advise you. However, with open abdominal surgery we generally advise at least 6 weeks avoidance of significant use of the abdominal muscles so that they can heal well. As a dental assistant you undoubtedly have to stand and bend over for significant time periods - not great right now.

Depends: Depends on your surgeon's instructions. Depends on how heavy your work is. Usually can start light work in 1-3 weeks after major abdominal surgery and no heavy work for about 6 weeks. Back ache is common from muscle spasm that occurs after abdominal surgery & resolves with doing more walking & moving around more.
