Probably not: If the red area is warm and or painful it may represent an infection. He could have an infected cyst which would not be uncommon in that area. Some cysts will drain on own and resolve and others will need to be opened. Sometimes they will just resolve on own. His provider will be able to let you know if any additional intervention is needed.
