Odynophagia: The medical term for painful swallowing - can have many causes including some related to irritation of the lining of throat or upper esophagus, or the muscles, or a nerve problem can cause pain on swallowing. There is a condition called glossopharyngeal neuralgia that is a nerve problem. See your doctor to discuss if you should be referred. Ent or neurologist.
