Trust: If you trust your dentist (which you should) then listen to his/her advice. If not, get a second opinion from a local dentist who can examine you and that tooth.

Options? Trust!: What are your options? Were they explained to you? You should understand why treatment was recommended and what are the consequences of not having that treatment. That should make your decision easier. If you trust your dentist, follow his\her advice. If you don't, find one you do trust. Do you trust our advice over the internet never even having seen you?
