Infection: Infection and subsequent swelling resulting from tooth pain can cause this. See your dentist asap.

Related, or not?: If the two problems occurred about the same time, could be an infected posterior tooth which can cause marked limited opening. If the events are not related, you could have a tooth problem and a TMJ (jaw joint) problem. See your dentist first.
