Love him for who he : Is. Spend time with him - encourage him to talk about things he likes (even if it would be boring to an adult). Offer to baby sit once in a while so that his parents get a break. Taking care of children with special needs is exhausting. Think out side the box, in terms of things that would be fun, educational or soothing for him. I am so glad that you asked this question. Take care.

Be supportive...: This can be a touchy subject with families and needs to be approached with care. In an open, honest, nonjudgemental fashion bring up your observations with your nephews parents/guardians. Ultimately it is up to them to pursue an evaluation with their provider if they feel it is necessary and which may already have taken place. As an aunt continue to develope your relationship in a supportive way.
