Stains: Smoking generally causes staining of the teeth... And in some instances, cancer. I'm not convinced that the smoking will affect your orthodontic care.

Dental\medical risks: More staining, more gingival irritation\inflammation and more likely to have gums problems as nicotine effects healing and the way that orthodontics moves teeth is by continual destruction of bone on one side of the tooth and apposition of bone on the other. More importantly, you run the risk of oral and lung cancer.
