Palliative medicine: Means treating the symptoms of a condition in order to make the patient feel more comfortable while the partiular condition runs its course and resolves on its own. The common cold is a good example. We can not cure it, but we can give the patient medicine to make them feel better while the cold resolves on its own.

Specializes in Palliative Care

Symptom experts: Palliative medicine doctors specialize in managing difficult to control symptoms in patients with life-limiting conditions, such as cancer and advanced heart/lung/kidney/liver diseases. Most palliative medicine doctors trained in internal medicine or family medicine before deciding to specialize in palliative medicine but some have other backgrounds, such as geriatricians or oncologists.
