Mild dental pain: Mild dental pain could be eased with otc pain medications . Moderate to severe pain need prescription from your dentist. Depending in the cause for pain appropriate medications and treatment could be prescribed.

Another option.....: Is to make it a priority. There is no way to know if otc pain medication will keep you comfortable until your appointment. If the delay in treatment is due to your schedule, you might want to reconsider your priorities. If the problem is getting an appointment with your dentist, you might want to consider seeing another dentist, at least for this emergency. Good luck either way.

Motrin: Motrin 800 mg can be taken every 6-8 hours. Motrin itself has side effects. Please consult a doctor if possible.

Meds: OTC pain meds like Motrin. Topical Orajel may help. Key is to see dentist ASAP. Some dental pain is so severe that even narcotics don't work.
