High ferritin: If the high ferritin is confirmed to be caused by hereditary hemochromatosis, then regular phlebotomy (discarding a portion of blood) will benefit most patients. Iron deposition can commonly cause disease in the liver, heart, pancreas and other organs, including the pituitary. Treatment may help reverse the effects of iron deposition, but not in all cases.
