Viral illness: This sounds like an unspecified viral illness. Typically cold sores come out with viral illnesses (or bacterial), but when the immune system is under stress or compromised. Your thirst could be due to fever, dehydration, or illness or a combination. Cold sores are typically herpes simplex type 1 and 80% of the population has been exposed to those.
