Not necessarily: That is a good rise in hcg. Spotting occurs in about 15% of early pregnancy and does not necessarily mean miscarriage. The cervix bleeds easily during pregnancy and if blood is retained in the vagina for a while, will discharge as a brownish color. The symptoms worrisome for miscarriage are bright red bleeding accompanied by rhythmic cramping.
