100-day cough?: Haven't heard of a 100-day throat virus. The 100-day cough is the whooping cough (pertussis), which is caused by a bacteria, not a virus. Patients continue to cough after the bacteria is gone, and coughing can go on for 3 months, which is about 100 days. The whooping cough is fatal in some young babies, so all persons need to be vaccinated. It is a preventable disease, with dtap or tdap vaccines.
