Nerve recovery: We are covered with a lacy network of nerves that give us sensation in addition to the big nerves that come from deep down and spread out onto the skin like a tree. When the skin is cut, that surface network of nerves is interrupted giving you some numbness. You can probably expect complete recovery, but it will take time.
