Not uncommon: Yes, give it some time. Take some otc pain medication such as advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you would normally take for a headache if necessary.

See below: The human body really does not appreciate having a needle pushed through it. Frequently there is local inflammation or aching where the needle went in. Also your jaw was propped open during surgery, this is not normal and some of the muscles might object. This should get better over the next few hours to days. Nsaids should help.
