Typical Cavity: Preparation can range from mild pain to excruciating pain. This depends on the depth of the cavity preparation. Some cavities are only within enamel (i.e. If caught early with a diagnodent) & can be treated with just ozone therapy & mi paste for recalcification, or very conservative preparation not needing any local anesthetic. Deeper cavities - use local. No pain, and able to stay still.

Discuss with Dentist: This question would be one for your dentist. The ability to do this would depend greatly on your tolerance for pain. Personally i couldn't do it.
