Fever: Inability to mount a febrile response to an illness depends in part on the nature of the illness, but more so on the individual. Patients with hypothyroidism, other metabolic derangements such as kidney or liver failure or central nervous system conditions may blunt the capacity of the patient to have fever. This is very common as well in the elderly.
