Is a temperature of 99.5 a fever? i usually run low and i had chills. today it is still elevated for me but only about 98.9. i have had a dull headache the past 2 afternoons. my back was also slightly achy in the kidney area. i don't feel ill?

Yes, it is a low fever. Normal T is less than 98.5 F People usually mistake the lower back as the site of kidneys. The kidney location is a little bit higher, the tops of both kidneys are underneath the rib cage. Kidney pain usually radiates to the groin and genital area.
