Confusing: Initially grouped by colony size and cell wall properties. Group a is pyogenic, others with different properties include group b through t (i think), some are normal skin flora, others cause various illnesses.

You are likely: Referring to the non-beta hemolytic strep, also called Alpha hemolytic strep. They are commonly found in the mouth and can be associated with endocarditis, an infection of the valves of the heart. Most, except for the so-called strep milleri group are not very pathogenic.
