A member asked:

What is hemolytic streptococci?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

3 different kinds: Streptococci growing on so-called blood agar can be alpha-hemolytic (partial hemolysis) causing a ring of green around the colony, beta- hemolytic (complete hemolysis) causing a clear ring around the colony, or gamma-hemolytic (no hemolysis) with no ring around the colony.
