See below: Group b strep. Or streptococcus agalactiae is a beta hemolytic streptococcus or chain forming, ball shaped bacteria. They commonly colonize the female genital tract and the colon. Strep. Species that completely hemolyze blood on agar plates are called beta hemolytic. They are subdivided based on presence of various lancefield cell wall antigens. Group b strep. Has the lancefield b antigen.
