I'm 3 weeks pregnant. i'm in dental school. i have been taking x-rays this past month. i didn't know i was pregnant. do you think it affected the baby?

Congratulations!: Congratulations on your career in dentistry! it is highly unlikely your exposure to radiation exposed your baby. If you follow the guidelines for radiation safety then your personal exposure should be zero! radiation hygiene and safety is very important for many reasons. Be sure your protect yourself and all of those you work with for every exposure. Females have much less exposure to the gonads.

Probably not: If you were the one taking the x-rays, the direction of the beam should have been directed away from you. The amount of any scatter should be minimal if the conehead was properly collimated, and would be dose dependent on the number of radiographs you took during that month. Good luck in dental school and with the pregnancy.

Probably not: If proper x-ray technique was followed, all the things you were taught in radiology, both you and the baby should be just fine. Congratulations! and if it's a boy, "arnold" is a great name.
