The pinched nerve(s): Are released by removing the back wall of the spinal canal( in which the cord is located) {ie laminectomy to allow removal of the disc that has slipped out}, while foraminotomy (or f. Decom.) is the widening of the canal in which the nerve is located {as it comes out from the cord}, by removing bone from around the nerve, and this should relieve your leg pains.

Ask your surgeon: If you are having surgery, be sure the lines of communication are wide open and your surgeon is listening to and answering all of your questions and concerns to your satisfaction prior to surgery. Should concerns arise after surgery, your surgeon will the best person to address them and you want to ensure that you can easily communicate with him/her. If not, find another surgeon. It's your body!
