Thought control: Anxiety is often both a physical and psychological condition. In counseling, people often become aware of habitual patterns of thinking that fuel the anxiety (eg awfulizing, control fallacies). Cognitive behavioral therapy can help you gain greater awareness of and control over these thought, thus giving you more control over your anxiety.

Mindfulness: Mindfulness (non-judgmentally paying attention, on purpose, to what's present now) can help a great deal. This practice is not about trying to change or control anything, but instead to simply be aware as thoughts come through your mind. The emotion of anxiety (along with accompanying physical sensations) gradually shifts. A good book about such practices is "the mindful way through anxiety.".
