It depends: It depends on stage severity, we have short acting bronchodilators, lung acting bronchodilators, inhale corticosteroids, prednisone, theophyline and latest one roflimuvast, physical therapy, oxygen and lastly respiratory support.

COPD tx: 1-anticholinergic sprays ( atrovent) with 2)long acting bronchodilators (spiriva) or combination of steroid spray with long acting bronchodilators ( advair or symbicort). Because anticholinergics may be expensive then simple albuterol spray may be used. Sprays are equally effective to nebulizations. Some pts may benefit from low dose steroids and for bronchodilators in liquid or pill form

Depends...: The patient's severity of COPD needs to be determined as well as their oxygen level to determine the best treatment. No matter how severe, smoking cessation is needed to stop the lung damage and allow the lungs to heal over time. Possible treatments include inhalers, systemic meds and even oxygen therapy if the oxygen level is low enough. Definitely need to stop smoking regardless.
