Nothing clearcut: Both conditions can be painless or cause some discomfort or pain. It is hard to tell the difference as they can both produce a lump/mass. Only ultrasound or other imaging tests can make the distinction between a cyst and a solid mass. So go seek medical advice from your doctor who can guide you further.
