Get checked: It can happen with injury or friction between coccyx and hard surface with prolonged sitting etc. Medical conditions can lead to spontaneous bruises and if it persists or recurs get it checked for medical reasons related to platelet disorders and easy bruising medical conditions of which there are many. Consult with your physician ifsuch is the case.

Coccydynia.: This sounds like coccydynia, which is a pain in the tail bone which occurs after sitting on a hard surface for a long time or from falling onto your tail bone onto a hard surface. Can take a long time to heal up. You can try sitting on a "donut", that soft cushion with a hole in the middle that you find at the surgical supply stores. Anti inflammatories may help.
