It depends: This depends on the medicine you're talking about. Ssri's are often used in panic disorder and other chronic anxiety conditions, and may need several weeks for full effect. Buspar (buspirone) needs 7-10 days. Benzodiazepines work more rapidly, and may be prescribed temporarily while these other meds are getting adjusted.
