When symptoms: Point toward gallbladder disease. If gallstones are found but you have no symptoms then surgery may never be required.

Symptoms: Gallstones are found frequently now due to the large number of CT scans and ultrasounds that are done. If you have gallstones and have symptoms due to those gallstones it is recommended that you have a cholecystectomy. A symptomatic gallstones do not require surgery.
