1 to 14 days: Your post does not say how difficult the extraction was. Also, each patient heals differently. If you are in a lot of pain, then pain meds should help.

Broad question: Depending upon the difficulty of the extraction and the specific circumstances relating to the tooth, the majority of pain should be gone within the first few days, although you may not feel completely comfortable and normal in that area from 1-3 weeks. Your own dentist is the one to ask questions of and follow your progress.
